2. Legal Framework for Consumer Protection

7. Remedies and Relief for Consumers

Consumer courts have the authority to grant various remedies and relief to aggrieved consumers, including compensation for damages, refund of purchase price or consideration paid, replacement or repair of defective goods, cessation of unfair trade practices, and punitive damages for loss or inconvenience suffered.

8. Appeals and Review

Parties aggrieved by the decision of a consumer court have the right to appeal to a higher consumer court within the prescribed time and in accordance with the procedure laid down in the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Appeals may be filed challenging the findings of fact, law, or jurisdiction of the lower court.

Consumer advocates play a crucial role in representing and assisting consumers in filing complaints, presenting evidence, and arguing their case before consumer courts. 11. Consumer Rights and Responsibilities

Consumers have certain rights and responsibilities when engaging in commercial transactions, including the right to safety, information, choice, redressal, and education. Consumers are also responsible for exercising due diligence, reading and understanding terms and conditions, and asserting their rights in case of disputes or grievances.

12. Alternative Dispute Resolution

Alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation, arbitration, and negotiation offer parties a faster, cheaper, and more flexible alternative to traditional litigation in resolving consumer disputes. These methods promote voluntary resolution, preserve relationships, and empower parties to reach mutually acceptable agreements outside of court.
